Transform leadership, schools with speed, at
scale and sustainably

Our flagship program – School Transformation and Empowerment Program focuses on closely working with schools and clusters towards improving the quality of education and continuous improvements across schools in India. STEP promotes collaboration among stakeholders in the education system – academic leaders, school heads, teachers, and the larger community, thereby working towards providing enriching learning experiences for every child in every public school of India. Implementation of school improvement initiatives in schools and clusters directly allows innovation and demonstration of school improvement.

School transformation & Empowerment in state through leadership development

Enabling education leader to design and implement school improvement

While we continue working with schools and clusters directly, we also enable state departments including the Department of Education, State Council of Education, Research, and Training (SCERT), and district institutes such as District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) to lead school improvement across the state or district. This involves co-creating programs with the key stakeholders, developing leadership capacity, reimagining state structures and processes, as well as enabling transparency and accountability through technology-enabled data driven decision making.

FAQ's

What is the STEP program?
The School Transformation & Empowerment Program (STEP) by Mantra4Change aimed at strengthening public education systems. It helps schools improve teaching, leadership, and student learning outcomes through structured processes and micro-improvements in school development.
Micro improvements for school refers to small, achievable actions that create measurable impact over time. STEP supports school leaders and teachers to identify these small wins and build momentum for sustainable, large-scale transformation.
STEP works primarily with government schools, district education departments, and local education bodies. The program also engages with SCERTs, DIETs, and other institutional partners to strengthen educational ecosystems.
The program provides mentoring and professional development for school leaders and teachers. It promotes reflective practices, data-based planning, and capacity building — all aimed at improving classroom, school-level, and student-level outcomes.

The core components include:

School leadership development
Teacher professional learning
Data systems for planning and monitoring
Community and stakeholder engagement
Continuous improvement through feedback and reflection

Depending on the scale and goals, STEP engagements typically last 1–3 years. Some interventions focus on short-term leadership or teacher development, while others support long-term school system transformation.
Schools participating in STEP have reported improved teaching practices, stronger leadership collaboration, a stronger school culture, and better student learning outcomes. These positive changes often start with micro improvements for school operations, leading to systemic transformation.
STEP uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative indicators, including student learning outcomes, teacher performance, leadership growth, and community engagement data to assess progress and impact.
The cost structure depends on partnerships and state collaborations. Many projects are funded through grants or supported by government and philanthropic partnerships, ensuring accessibility for public schools.
